Classic South African Merlot, nose of ripe greengage and savoury bay, on the palate there is equal richness but the wine is well balanced and juicy

History
South Africa will anniversary 360 years of vine growing in 2019, and it all started just outside of Cape Town, known for some of the best value for money wines, the spectrum stretches to real blockbuster cuvees. Chenin and Pinotage show particularly well here in the Cape, but the International varieties also thrive, like this delicious Merlot.

Regional Information
Stretching from Olifants river in the north through to the cool climate areas of the coastal Elgin, the Western Cape is a wine Kitchen for eager Winemakers.

Vinification Details
The grapes are sourced from long established vineyards on the Wellington/Swartland borders, an are with low rainfall with mainly decomposed granite soils. The vines are low trellised and the grapes were picked mid-March. The bunches are destemmed and placed in open top fermenters, pigeage is done 4 times per day initially then twice daily until the end of fermentation, the purpose is to extract colour, flavour and maintain a good level of structure, the resulting wine should be soft and fruity.
