Please take your sample in the morning. Take this test between days 2 and 5 of your period. It can be taken at any time if you are not having periods. Do not take biotin supplements for 2 days prior to this test. If you are taking prescribed biotin you should discuss this with your doctor. HRT and the contraceptive pill can affect the results of this test, taking the test during a break from these will give more accurate results. Avoid taking a finger-prick sample from a finger used to handle hormone-gels or hormone-pessaries in the past 4 weeks.

You will get more accurate results if you are able to take this test during a break from your oestrogen containing medication. Handling hormone gels or pessaries (e.g. HRT or TRT) can cause higher than expected finger-prick blood results. If you use these take your blood sample from a finger which has not been in contact with a gel or pessary for several weeks, wearing a glove whilst applying the medication can help with this. Use of phyto-oestrogens could affect the results of this test. This includes over the counter supplements aimed at raising oestrogen levels, and some essential oils such as Rose-Otto and Geranium. Sleep quality can affect testosterone levels. Avoid taking your test when your sleep is likely to be disrupted, e.g. if you are getting less than five hours sleep per night.
