Wine of Australia
Josef Chromy settled in the Tamar Valley over 40 years ago and quickly established himself as a producer of exceptional quality. Tasmania at this time was very much the hidden gem of Australia, and it has now established itself as a region of excellent quality. Roaring Beach is no different. A local secret, with a rugged coastline and some of the cleanest rainfall and air in the world. Tasmania provides beautiful natural acidity, and a long, cool ripening season which allows for the delicate and supple flavours necessary for high quality Pinot Noir.

History: Josef Chromy has been one of the most influential figures in the Tasmanian food and wine community. Arriving as a penniless Czech refugee after WWII, he built a successful small goods business before embarking on a second career as a vigneron. He has developed some of Tasmania's most iconic wine brands before, at the age of 76, putting all his experience and knowledge into his eponymous winery.
Regional information: Southernmost and coolest wine region of Australia. Tasmania is an island and hence the environment is moderated by the surrounding ocean, giving a temperate maritime climate. Roaring Beach is a 900 m long beach on the western side of the Tasman Peninsula. Southwest-facing, with a dangerous rip and cold waters touched by the Southern Ocean, the coast is wild, rugged and beautiful and popular with local surfers.
Vinification: Approximately 10% whole bunches are placed into fermenters before the remainder of grapes are destemmed on top. Moderate to cool fermetnation with plunging 3 to 6 time per day. Pressed once dry with a portion run to oak for 6 months to gain complexity and texture while the majority stays in stainless steel tank for retention of freshness and fruit character.
