Charles Back, the owner of Fairview, is also the man behind Goats do Roam, a fun concept that offers wines of superb quality and value for money. The 'legend' goes that some errant members of Fairview's long established goat herd (the suppliers of milk for Fairview's internationally award-winning cheeses) escaped from their paddock into the Fairview vineyards after Charles Back's young son Jason accidentally left the paddock gate open. The little group happily roamed among the vineyards, showing rare discernment by selecting some of the ripest berries from the vines. |

Bright ruby red in colour, this medium-bodied wine has pronounced red berry fruit on the nose with perfumed violets and hints of spice. The palate mirrors the initial aromas with added savoury flavours and a prominent herbal note on the finish. |
The Fairview estate is situated approximately 50 kilometres from Cape Town, on the lower slopes of Mt. Paarl, and was planted with vines as early as 1699. The property was bought by Charles Back's grandfather in 1937 and was subsequently run by his father, Cyril, before Charles took charge. His era has seen Fairview emerge to become one of the country's most exciting properties, with all its production now certified as Fair Trade. |
This vintage is a blend of four varieties sourced from several districts within the Coastal Region, selected for their varietal characteristics which together make for a vibrant, supple wine with smooth tannins. The `Goatfather ¿ is comprised of Barbera from Paarl and Swartland, Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, Sangiovese from Darling and Nebbiolo from Paarl. |

After being de-stalked and lightly crushed, the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation the various components were aged separately in a mix of 225 litre French and American Oak barrels (mainly 2nd to 4th fill) for 16 months, before being blended, lightly filtered and bottled. |
