Safety Warning-Guidance on the safe use of adjustable wrenches (spanners)

CARE AND USE:
• Due to their adjustable design, adjustable wrenches are not as strong as fixed jaw wrenches. If appropriate to the task, consider using a fixed jaw wrench suitably sized for the corresponding size nut or bolt.
• To use, adjust the wrench jaws to seat fully around the nut or bolt head and tighten by hand. Adopt a firm stance to prevent a fall should the tool slip.
• Never use a tube or any other form of
extension to increase leverage.
Remember that it's possible to strip a thread by the application of excessive torque.
• Never expose wrenches to excessive heat since this may soften the tool and ruin its strength.
• Never grind or otherwise try to rework wrenches to alter their shape.
• For a difficult to remove nut or bolt, consider using a special purpose striking face ring wrench. Note that the prior application of penetrating oil will usually help.
• Inspect wrenches periodically for signs of damage or wear and discard if excess damage and/or wear is evident.
• Pay attention to the proper maintenance of tools. Their storage in
a clean condition and proper environment will
pay dividends in extended tool life and efficiency.
