History
The quality of the soil, which has long been recognised as such, gave the Chteau du Cartillon a reputation as early as the 19th century. In 1850 this Cru Bourgeois was clearly mentioned in the first edition of the Fret Guide. At that time the property was owned by Monsieur Alexandre de Bethmann (1805-1870) who was Mayor of Bordeaux from 1867 to 1870. Chteau du Cartillon is located on the itinerary which follows the Mdoc Chteaux in the Bordeaux area, in the village of Lamarque, halfway between the Margaux and Saint-Julien vineyards. In the heart of the Haut-Mdoc appellation, the 69 hectares property adjoins three prestigious representatives of the Moulisappellation : the Chteaux of Poujeaux, Maucaillou and Chasse Spleen
