Buriti oil comes from the Moriche Palm which grows wildly in the Amazon, a tree locals refer to as the ree of life\. As buriti oil's popularity increased, Indigenous tribes in the Amazon formed cooperatives to wild harvest the seeds, resulting in Buriti becoming the main occupation for riverside dwellers during the rainy season.
