Discover the rich, naturally caffeine-free flavour of Carmién Rooibos Tea, sustainably sourced from the unique terroir of South Africa's Cederberg Mountains. This antioxidant-rich tea is perfect for promoting well-being and enjoying a moment of calm. It's a delicious and healthy beverage for the whole family.
Carmién Rooibos Tea's story started in 1998 in an old farm shop on the historic Brakfontein Estate near the small town of Citrusdal. Located on the foothills of the Western Cape's splendid Cederberg Mountains, the farm falls within the Greater Cederberg Biodiversity Corridor. The narrow 60,000 hectare belt along the West Coast of South Africa is the only place in the world where Rooibos Tea can be grown. This area is also one of the world's six Plant Kingdoms. The typical Mediterranean climate, ideal temperatures, rainfall and sunshine, offers the natural terroir needed for Rooibos to be cultivated in harmony with nature. The sandy slopes and undulating valleys of the rugged Cedarberg Mountain Range provide the perfect habitat for Rooibos.
Rooibos is naturally caffeine free (unlike black & green tea), kilojoule and preservative free and supports weight-loss. Rooibos is a good source of antioxidants and is the only known source of a potent antioxidant aspalathin, which could play a role in combating several lifestyle diseases. Rooibos can help to reduce high blood sugar levels, alleviate allergies, is low in tannin and does not interfere with iron absorption. Stomach and indigestion problems can be relieved by drinking black Rooibos tea and it is a naturally relaxing drink at night to assist with a good night's sleep, as it is soothing on the nervous system. Rooibos can be consumed by children and babies from 6 months old, as it is anti-spasmodic and can alleviate colic and stomach cramps in babies.
In May 2021, Rooibos became the first African food to receive the status of geographical indication (GIs), Regulation (EU)No 1151/2012, granting it the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). 16 regions within the Western and Northern Cape of South Africa are the only regions where Rooibos can be grown and be called Rooibos Tea, and the Carmién Rooibos Tea farms are spread across these areas.
Carmién Rooibos Tea farms offer a full commitment to sustainable farming, job creation and improving the lives of farm workers who are also shareholders of the Rooibos factory. There is a commitment to producing and processing a product of high quality according to international food safety regulations with a special focus on flavour and taste. Together with efforts to ensure sustainable farming practises, Carmién tea is committed to the environment, and offer eco-friendly packaging solutions e.g. compostable teabags.
