The Champonnets vineyard is always one of the most robust in style and rich in flavour of the Gevrey Chambertin Premier Crus. For this reason, it is a slower wine to evolve and ideally needs a few years in bottle. The classic iron and steel flavours of Gevrey Chambertin are very much evident here but the wine has dense and deep fruit notes to balance the powerful structure. The Champonnets estate is an old vineyard where the fruit is highly concentrated.
Like most estates in the area, 2017 produced ripe and supple wines with an emphasis on fruit rather than tannins. Nevertheless, this will be a great wine to enjoy over the next ten years.
