Johanne Christian Henschke wasn’t always a winemaker. He journeyed to South Australia in the 19th century with the first generation of early German pioneers, and was a stonemason and wheelwright by trade. In 1868 he founded the Henschke winery in the hills of Eden Valley, and over a century later, Cyril Henschke paid tribute to him with the very first vintage of this old-vine Wheelwright Shiraz. Crimson in colour, this 2017 bottle possesses a rich, concentrated palate of spicy red cherry and redcurrant, with vanilla and anise undertones.
