Preparation and Safety

Cooking instructions: other

Before cooking: Soak overnight in cold water. Allow 37 g per serving. Rinse beans thoroughly and place in a large pan with fresh cold water. During cooking: Bring to boil and boil rapidly for 10 minutes uncovered. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes until tender. Ensure pan does not boil dry. After cooking: Drain well before serving. Check food is piping hot. All cooking appliances vary. This is a guide only. The cooked beans can be frozen. Important: Red kidney beans should always be soaked overnight and boiled rapidly for at least 10 minutes, especially if adding to slow cooking casseroles.
