Originally created in 1830 in New Orleans by creole apothecary Antoine Amédée Peychaud as a liquid tonic called bitters, it was solely used for medicinal purposes before becoming a popular beverage. Today, Peychaud's Bitter's is produced according to the original recipe at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Lighter than the profile of other aromatic bitters, Peychaud's boasts notes of cherry, clove and nutmeg on the nose that blend into liquorice, saffron and caramel. Bright red in colour, it adds fun to any cocktail.
