Offley, a pioneering, contemporary Porto wine brand, with almost 3 centuries of heritage and experience, became famous due to Joseph J. Forrester, who was later bestowed with the title of Baron by the king of Portugal, for his fundamental role in the expansion of both Offley and the Porto wine. This elegant rose porto has a very intense bouquet with prevalence of tropical fruit and exotic wood. In the mouth it has excellent freshness, with a fine harmony and a lingering finish. Offley rose is best served in a large glass, well chilled or on the rocks.

Tasting Notes
Offley Rose Port has a light pink hue, with shades of violet. The nose has an abundance of red berries, tropical fruits and some light spicy notes. On the palate, the sweetness is balanced by fresh acidity with a crisp and elegant finish.

History
William Offley founded the eponymous wine merchant in London in 1737, and soon began importing and bottling Port to the UK. By 1787, Offley was described as `one of the most considerable English houses at Porto.' Under Sogrape's ownership, Offley has thrived. Quality, derived from the fact that their best wines come from the Quinta da Boa Vista in Cima Corgo, has once again moved it up the ranks of Port producers.

Regional Information
The soil in the Douro Valley is made up of schist - a slate-like metamorphic rock that is rich in nutrients and has useful water retention properties. The vines are grown on terraces cut into the steep hillsides of the Douro Valley. The terraces are walled with schist to prevent erosion, otherwise torrential rains would wash loose stones down the slopes and into the river. Each terrace can hold up to three rows of vines.

Vinification Details
Hand-picked red grapes were destemmed, crushed and pressed immediately to avoid prolonged contact with the skins. Just like in any other Port wine, fermentation is stopped by the addition of grape spirit, resulting in a sweet fortified wine. The wine stays in the Douro warehouses for the winter, after which it is taken to Vila Nova de Gaia and enters Offley's centuries-old lodges to evolve in stainless steel vats to maintain its fresh fruit characters prior to bottling.
