History: At the turn of the 19th century Annie Rozier, a flower merchant, would come to pick her flowers on the hills surrounding our farm. Her business flourished and resulted in our historic Homestead which bears her name being built. Since then these same hills have been planted with vines with the Gabb family purchasing Mount Rozier in 2010. A ongoing programme of investment in meticulously managed vineyards and cellar has resulted in this wine that bears the Mount Rozier name.
Regional information: The Worcester region is the largest wine producing region in South Africa and accounts for some 20% of South African production. The carries 250 years of winemaking history and has a broad internal network of soil types from sandy loam to tukulu. Climatically Worcester sees warm summers averaging 30 degrees, and cool winters with snow often found on its surrounding mountains.
Vinification: Grapes were handpicked early in the morning. The grapes were then hand sorted, destemmed and crushed before being pumped into the respective fermentation tanks. The juice was allowed to cold soak in with the skins for three days before being inoculated. Fermentation took about 15 days at 18 - 28 ˚C
