The first EnglishSparkling launched by a Champagne House. The winemaker, Clement Pierlot, hasapplied the same traditional method he uses in Champagne – but this time inHampshire.
Pommerystyle, expressed through the English terroir.
With the results of our Global Sparkling Masters 2019 out, we wanted to draw your attention to a curious, Anglo-French number from Louis Pommery that impressed the judges this year.
Pommery revealed its plans to put down roots in England in 2014, announcing a partnership with Hattingley Valley in Hampshire to use its facilities to produce the house ¿s first English sparkler.
It will be several years before the Pinglestone vineyard bears fruit, with the first harvest expected in 2021 and full production from 2024, but Pommery is taking a long-term view of the project.
In the meantime, this limited edition number has already proved what Pommery is capable of producing on British soil. A smooth mousse with aromas of citrus and apple, the wine is a marriage of quality reserve wines from Hattingley and the expert blending of Pommery ¿s winemaker.
It has that signature acidity and taut structure we ¿re starting to see as a hallmark of English fizz, as well as the toasty, brioche-like depth we know and love about Champagne. Alongside this, a fresh lemony flavour on the palate, hints of honeycomb and a long finish will have you reaching for another glass before long.
Greatfreshness and finesse from the emerging aromas of lime, apple and pear.Beautiful notes of blackcurrant and white fruit topped with a hint of honey. The finish is long and soft with an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity.
Alexandre-LouisPommery, an enlightened businessman, founded the Pommery Champagne House in1836. Since its creation, the portfolio of Pommery champagnes is the expressionof a unique and extensive know-how combining tradition with modernity. We haveadapted the brand to modern times without revolutionising it, having the sameunparalleled focus on the quality of our Champagnes. It is with this samequality criterion that we have created our English sparkling wine, LouisPommery England.
We knewthat Pommery could develop an excellent quality sparkling wine in the EnglishCounty of Hampshire. There, we found the same vein of chalk that runs throughthe Champagne region in France and extraordinary wealth of terroir. In November2017, Pommery planted the first English vines by a Champagne company.
Since June2021, Pinglestone Estate has been awarded the label «Sustainable Wines Of GreatBritain ». Preserving and enhancing the terroir, biodiversity and landscapes iskey in our winemaking.
The blendincorporates a majority of Chardonnay, contributing to its finesse andelegance, as well as a large proportion of Pinot Noir, which produces fruit andstructure, with a touch of Pinot Meunier. The wine is made by traditionalChampagne method. After ageing for the necessary time on lees, to reach thedesired maturity, the sparkling wine is disgorged to remove any yeast depositswhich give the wine its depth and structure.
