History: Wine from the Hautes Côtes de Beaune was drunk at the coronation of Philippe Auguste in 1180. The vines underwent a period of expansion, linked to economic growth throughout the 19th century, until phylloxera struck. Between 1910 and 1936, almost half of the vineyard disappeared. It was reborn in 1945 and the appellation has been officially created on the 4 of August 1961.
Regional information: The Hautes Côtes overlooks the Côte de Beaune from the west, lying between Maranges and Ladoix-Serrigny. The interior is a succession of hills and valleys. The vines cover the sunny slopes at the foot of a limestone cliff. At between 280 and 450 metres above sea-level, the vineyards occupy the best- exposed sides of valleys which run east-west at right angles to the axis of the Côte. The subsoil is dominated, especially in the south, by beds of marl.
Vinification: Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maturation during 10-12 months in cellar for ageing, including a part in oak barrels.
