Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure its authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. The supreme Kazak design is mainly made by the Hazara Tribes of Afghanistan. The design and patterns of Kazak rugs are taken from old Caucasian rugs (Caucasian carpets are from the areas south, east and north of the mountain chain of the Caucasus, Russia).

The wool yarns used are all hand spun and dyed using only natural dyes such as cochineal and indigo, which adds to their dramatic and vibrant appearance. Once dyed and hand knotted on a cotton warp base in Afghanistan the rugs are then transported over to Pakistan where they are expertly finished including washing and trimming. The method used to hand make a Kazak rug is called ChappatBaft or Flat woven. Kazak rug weavers are faithful in using traditional bold colour and design mainly with geometrical motifs including a mixture of diamond and circle shapes as well as representations of animals, people and nature.

In 1sqm of a Supreme Kazak rug there would be around 160000 + knots giving a fine-density pile.

About your new rug

• Blot any spills with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub or use harsh detergents.
• Textile backed
• Attend to spillages immediately and blot with a clean, dry cloth to prevent staining. Dilute a small amount of appropriate carpet shampoo in water. Dampen a colourfast cloth in the diluted shampoo solution and dab the rug, lightly agitating, moving in the direction of the pile. Treat the whole rug and not just the affected area. To restore the appearance of the affected area, use a soft bristled brush to gently comb in the direction of the pile. Allow the rug to thoroughly dry.
