Runner rugs like this Gooch Luxury Khal Mohammadi hand knotted piece are ideal for hallways and narrow spaces. The traditional Afghan design with deep red hues adds warmth and character. This rug is expertly crafted using 100% local wool and finished to the highest standard.
A classic, traditional design, Afghan Khan or Khal Mohammadi (as the design is mainly known) rugs are only woven in the Andkhoy region of Afghanistan. They are woven by the Uzbek and Turkoman people using 100% local wool. The rugs earned their name from Mr Khan Muhammad, a famous yarn dyer who developed a particular recipe to create deep intense reds sometimes so rich they could appear a mahogany/reddish brown which is the unique traditional technique used for this design. Once woven, the rug is then taken to a region in Pakistan where final bespoke touches are added to ensure the rug is finished to the highest standard.
The rugs follow a distinctive type of patterning which once seen a few times can be easily recognised again in all its subtle and beautiful variations. In 1sqm of Khal Mohammadi rugs there would be around 150000 + knots giving a low-density pile.
Worth Knowing: The exact design layout will differ depending on the size of rug you choose.
