The expression of the vineyard, refined with wood, offers an exceptional wine. The yolk must is cold macerated and then fermented in American oak barrels, remaining on its lees, until it reaches its full potential. Intense and complex with notes of vanilla and very balanced fruit trees.

Golden in colour, complex on the nose with toasted character and ripe fruits. On the palate the wine is full bodied with good acidity and flavours of peach, roasted hazlenuts and honey, leading to a long balanced finish

History
Navarra is one of Spain's most ancient wine regions. Historical evidence dates back to 2 BC when ancient Romans built wineries there. Bodega's in the region have been investing in French oak to age their wines, resulting in an affordable combination of French and Spanish grape varieties - often oaked in style. Fortius wines are produced at the Bodegas Valcarlos winery, located in the village of Los Arcos in Tierra Estella, right on the Camino de Santiago - famous for its historic pilgrimages.

Regional Information
Navarra is located in the far North East of Spain, bordered by the Pyrenees Mountains to the North and La Rioja in the South West. It has close proximity to the Ebro river, with a Continental climate to the North, and a Mediterranean climate to the South. The area of Tierra Estella within Navarra borders the Basque country and Rioja. There are a mixture of soils in this zone, ranging from heavy clay, multi-coloured marl, alluvial, iron rich and deep loam.

Vinification Details
Once harvested the grapes undergo cold maceration for 48 hours before the free-run juice is separated. The fermentation then takes place in charred American oak barrels, and the wine undergoes battonage twice a week for a 6 week period. This reduces to once a week for the following 6 weeks, then once every 15 days for the final 6 weeks. After the careful barrel aging process, the wine is bottled and stored in the cellar of the winery before it is ready for release.
