Clos du Caillou hails from the Châteauneuf du Pape region of France – but not exactly in the way that you might think. In 1936, the owner of the vineyard refused to allow the experts who were drawing up the boundaries of the appellation to visit his domaine, thus resulting in it becoming a separate enclave within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
