Boots Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment Gel is clinically proven to treat the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV is one of the most common causes of abnormal vaginal discharge. The vagina naturally contains a mix of many different bacteria. In cases of BV, the number of certain bacteria increases, affecting the pH value of the vagina. Normally the vagina has a low pH due to the large amount of bacteria that produce lactic acid which occurs naturally and protects against unwanted bacteria. When the pH balance in the vagina is altered, it can allow unwanted bacteria to multiply.
The main symptoms of BV are vaginal odour and abnormal discharge which is usually a watery texture and greyish-white in colour.
The risk of having BV can be increased by using perfumed soaps, douching or using vaginal deodorants. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, semen in the vagina and intrauterine contraceptive devices (commonly known as IUD/Coil) are also known to alter the natural pH balance of the vagina.

How to use
Read the instructions provided on the leaflet before use and retain for future reference. Boots Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment Gel is best applied before going to sleep in the evening. Each specially shaped applicator is sealed and contains a single dose of gel, which is squeezed directly into the vagina. 1x 5ml tube to be used daily for 7 days.
