Like all Auchentoshan expressions, the 12 year old is triple distilled for extra smoothness. It's then aged for 12 years in a combination of American oak bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. This gives the whisky more time to mellow and mature, while picking up flavors of fruit, nuts and gingery spice from the time in wood.
