Altano Organic is produced by the Symington family, who have been amongst the pioneers of modern Douro wines. In the 1990s they began producing Douro DOC wines from the same vineyards and indigenous grape varieties that had always made great Port. The first Altano red wine was released in 1999, and since then the family haven't looked back.
Altano reds are produced solely with grapes from the Symingtons' own vineyards. Each year their winemakers are challenged to produce wines that best reflect the unparalleled collection of vineyards from the UNESCO World Heritage Douro Valley.
Intense garnet colour, Altano Organic is beautifully scented, with floral and ripe red fruit aromas. On the palate, the wine shows excellent structure and balance with brooding, dark plum flavours and peppery tannins, with undertones of dark chocolate and an elegant, long finish.
