Alessi's Pulcina espresso maker is the result of a collaboration between designer Michele De Lucchi and Illycaffè. The goal was to optimise the coffee maker's shape to improve the properties of the coffee it produces and the experts at Illy's R&D Laboratory managed to identify some important areas for improvement. The changes they made have reduced and nearly eliminated the so-called 'Stromboli-volcano effect' that's common to many espresso makers and causes the burnt or bitter aftertaste. With Pulcina, only the finest qualities of the coffee are maintained through the brewing process.
