Use the Alessi Maya basket as a stylish fruit bowl or catch-all tray. This iridescent steel piece shifts between green and violet, adding a dynamic touch. Created by Italian designer Giulio Confalonieri, it is part of the Alessi Archivio collection.
The Maya basket has an essential and at the same time mysteriously reflective appeal. Created in the 1970s by Giulio Confalonieri, this true graphic design evolved in three dimensions and was translated into sheet steel by cold forming. The elegant original comes to life with this iridescent version that moves between the colour poles of green and violet.
In 2025, Giulio Confalonieri's Maya basket joined the Archivio collection taken from the Alessi catalogue and based on designs kept in the Alessi Museum, established in 1998.
Born in Milan in 1926, designer and graphic artist Giulio Confalonieri was one of the leading representatives of the Swiss School in Italy in the 1950s. He worked in editorial, advertising and corporate graphics, and his work is characterised by a style with a strong visual impact and dynamic composition based on the contrast between positive and negative elements. He helped shape the image of important companies and institutions.
His numerous honours include the gold medal of the 11th and 15th Milan Triennale and the Typomundus Diploma of Honour in New York, awarded for an outstanding contribution to the development of 20th century graphic art. His works can be seen in various international art museums.
