Digby achieves its Fine English standard through the refined art of blending, using grapes grown by its meticulously groomed partner vineyards in the chalky soil of Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset. This, plus the long, cool growing season and Digby's inventive winemaking put it in the vanguard of the English sparkling wine movement.
Our adventure in wine is named to honour a great, unsung hero of English history and wine history. Sir Kenelm Digby epitomised the 17th century English spirit of creativity - he was a philosopher, patron of the arts and pirate who adored cooking, science and conversation. His most enduring contribution was the invention of the modern wine bottle in the 1630s to overcome the vagaries of shipping wine in barrel.
