INGREDIENTS:
Chocolate Flavoured Sponge Cake Mix (60%) (Sugar, Fortified British Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Palm Oil, Rapeseed Oil, Dextrose, Raising Agents: Potassium Bicarbonate, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Phosphate; Emulsifier: Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids).
Chocolate Flavoured Frosting Mix (40%) (Icing Sugar, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder).
This is a raw product and must be fully cooked before eating. Ensure good kitchen hygiene and hand washing when handling raw flour and raw flour products
Stage 1
Pre-heat the oven to 180⁰C/Fan 160⁰C/Gas Mark 4.
Grease and line 2 x 20cm (8") round cake tins.
Empty the cake mix into a mixing bowl and add 2 medium eggs, 90ml (6 tbsp) of semi-skimmed milk and 30ml (2 tbsp) of vegetable oil.
Using an electric whisk, whisk on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
Divide the mixture equally into the tins and bake in the centre of the oven for 20 minutes until risen and cooked through.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tins for 5 minutes before transferring onto a cooling rack.
Stage 2
Beat 50g of softened unsalted butter until fluffy then gradually mix in the frosting mix and 30ml (2 tbsp) of semi-skimmed milk until smooth.
Sandwich the cakes together with a third of the frosting, then use the rest to cover the top and sides of the cake
