Our solar-powered winery thrives under the African sun, whilst our own little army of bees are busy pollenating the flowers on the vines. Land set down to native plant life provides a safe haven for Egyptian geese, blue cranes and eagle owls who are pretty good at pest control too!

History: Produced by the Gabb family from Shropshire UK, who came to South Africa in 1995, purchased and started planting vines at the beautiful Journeys End. The estate has a very strong focus on sustainable and ethical farming and winemaking practices, working closely with nature and the local community. It is also Fairtrade certified. The Identity series was created in 2020 to deliver the unique Identity of Journeys End through both the wine itself and the labelling, bought to life via Augmented Reality.

Regional information: Fruit is drawn from both the Swartland Region which is extremely arid, and blessed with shale and quartz vineyards, and tukulu and oakleaf soils of the prestigious Schapenberg Hills of Stellenbosch. Vines average age is 25 years and all are hand picked. The Schapenberg fruit delivers elegance and finesse as a result of the coastal breezes and firmer acidity on the wines. The Swartland components delivery exceptionally bright primary fruit characterisctics.

Vinification: De-stemmed berries were crushed into stainless steel tanks. Cold maturation was done for 4 days before the tanks were inoculated with carefully selected yeast strains to optimize the fruit extraction. A combination of 2 - 3 pump overs were conducted to maximise colour extraction in a gentle manner. After a 14 day fermentation some tanks were pressed and some were left on the skins for up to 5 days before pressed. Only free run wines was selected for this blend and left to complete malolactic.
