The single vineyard Don Melchor originates from 114 hectares at Puente Alto in the Alto Maipo Valley. At the foot of the Andes Mountains, this is the finest terroir for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile. In 1984 Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle's vision for the vineyard compelled him to send samples of wine for eminent enologists to taste in Bordeaux. Jacques Boissenot's enthusiasm was immediate and he has been involved in the making of every vintage since.Excellent climatic conditions, marked by a high daily fluctuation, due to the strong influence of the Andes, allowed us to have a great expression of fruit, notes of freshness and excellent ripeness of tannins.This Don Melchor contains 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc.Enrique Tirado S.Winemaker

This identity is built upon a base of three fundamental pillars ”its impeccable heritage and history, the peerless conditions of its terroir, and the deep understanding and expertise in the making of the Don Melchor wine.

Regional Information
Puente Alto is a privileged terroir, determined by the singular combination of soil, climate conditions, the vineyard, and a delicate human touch to craft vintages that are a faithful expression of this special place. Located at the foot of the Andes, 650 metres above sea level, the Don Melchor winery is set on the north bank of the Maipo River and has long been a keystone in the history of Chilean wine. Ever since French pre-phylloxera vines were imported in the mid-19th Century, this part of the Maipo Valley has been growing in prestige and quality, building on a past rich in tradition.

Vinification Details
Hand picked grapes are manually picked and sorted, before entering stainless steel tanks for 10 days of alcoholic fermentation with manual pump over. At the end of the maceration period, each tank is devatted, tasted and selected by the Don Melchor winemaking team and then transferred to French oak barrels for 15 months (67% new, 33% second use).
