Bruichladdich's 1985 whiskey is derived from the final 22 casks of legacy stock originally filled into third fill bourbon casks that have laid untouched until 2012 when it was re-casked into fresh Bourbon before a final coup de grace in French oak from one of the greatest French chateaux. With a colour of blood orange, it has a great presence on the palate with a syrupy texture to match. The wine casks has given it a warm hint of nutmeg and a layer of fruity notes connoting raspberry, blackcurrant and jam, while sweet notes of cinder toffee, lemon meringue and coconut help to balance it out.
