Decorating time 10-20 mins
This kit includes:
12 White cupcake cases, cupcake baking mix, colour changing icing, acid mix (acidity equal to a lemon) and alkali mix
You will need:
50g Soft margarine (or soft butter)
60ml milk (4 tbsp)
1 medium egg
Cupcake tray
20ml water (4 tsp)
Crazy colour changing icing cupcake mix
Let's get baking
1 Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/ gas mark 4 approximately 10 minutes before your bakes are ready to go in the oven, and place your cupcake cases into the cupcake tray. Take care when using the oven.
2 Mix together in a bowl the baking mix, margarine, milk and the egg. Then mix (by hand or using an electric mixer) for 2-3 minutes or until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Take care using the electric mixer.
3 Spoon the mixture evenly into the 12 cupcakes cases.
4 Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until the cupcakes are a light golden colour. Take care when using the oven.
5 Remove from the oven (be careful they are hot) and allow them to cool completely before decorating.
8 In the other empty bowl, add the alkali mix and 1/2 tsp water and mix well.
9 Now for the exciting part! Add the acid solution to one of the bowls of coloured icing, stir well and watch as the acid, which has a lower pH, changes the icing pink.
10 Add the alkali solution to the other bowl of coloured icing, stir well and see how the alkali, which has a higher pH, changes the icing purple.
6 In a bowl, add the colour changing icing mix and 15ml (1 tbsp) of water, stir well and then place half of this mixture into a separate bowl.
7 Take two more bowls, carefully empty the acid mix into one of the bowls. Add 1/2 tsp water and mix well. Avoid contact with your eyes, wash immediately if it goes into your eyes.
11 Decorate your cupcakes with both icings, you can get creative with different designs using pink and purple. Why not try spooning a small amount of each colour onto a cupcake then take a cocktail stick and drag it through the two colours to create a marble pattern?!
12 Enjoy your colour changing cupcakes! They can be stored in an air tight container but should be eaten within 4 days. For best results icing should be made fresh and used to decorate with immediately.
Serve & enjoy!Package Type
